Arrive and transfer to your hotel in Zagreb.
Private transfer from Zagren hotel to embarkation in the Croatian port of Sisak, situated at the confluence of the Kupa into the Sava, which is thereby made navigable. The ship remains in Sisak overnight.
The ship remains in Sisak for the whole morning – time for an coach excursion to the Croatian capital, *Zagreb, which also extends by the Sava. A city sightseeing tour familiarises you with the main attractions of the Upper and Lower Town. Back in Sisak, the ship casts off in the early afternoon and glides down the tranquil Sava, until it reaches Jasenovac in the evening.
The stay in Jasenovac is ideal for a morning *excursion to the Lonjsko Polje nature park, one of the best-preserved damp biotopes in Europe. The more than 50,000-hectare area is famous for its wide variety of birds: Storks are very much at home here – as you can observe in the stork village *Cigoć. In the afternoon, the cruise continues on the Sava to Slavonski Brod, where the ship arrives in the late evening.
Slavonski Brod has always been important as a border town. During a *sightseeing tour, you will get to know the historical centre with its pedestrian zone and the starshaped citadel, which was built in the 18th century as a defence against the Turks. The river cruise on the Sava is continued around lunchtime to Brcko, the only Bosnian port of call on this journey.
Brcko was a heavily disputed area in the chaos of war in the 1990s, but was reconstructed in an exemplary manner. *Sightseeing includes not only a walking tour of the centre, but also a visit to the Franciscan monastery in nearby Tolisa, which dates from the 19th century and has the largest Catholic church in the country. In the afternoon, you will continue to Serbian Sremska Mitrovica, where you are expected in the evening
After breakfast, an excursion sets off from Sremska Mitrovica to the charming region *Vojvodina. Here, you head for Fruška Gora National Park, where more than a dozen medieval Serbian Orthodox monasteries are located, which are impressive with their mixture of Byzantine and baroque elements. Return to the ship and onward journey from noon on the Sava to the Serbian capital, Belgrade, where the ship moors in the evening.
You will use the morning in Belgrade, which lies at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, for *city sightseeing, during which you will see the Orthodox Church of St Sava, the “Question Mark Cafe“, Princess Ljubica’s Residence, Republic Square and Belgrade Fortress, among others. You will be back on board for lunch and we swings into the Danube, to reach the final mooring in Novi Sad in the evening.
