The excursion ends in Ghent. After lunch on board guests can join a *sightseeing walking tour through Ghent which is the second largest Belgian seaport. The impressive St. Bavo Cathedral is the religious heart of the town, but also many Gothic secular buildings such as the Belfry of Ghent or the historic town hall enrich the town. Continuation of the cruise in the late evening.

Day 3
Via the river Scheldt, you reach the diamond city of Antwerp. On a *sightseeing tour you will get to know the historical centre of the cosmopolitan art city, where numerous gabled houses line the quaint old town streets. The afternoon will be spent on board. The ship sails westbound through the Belgian waterways.

Day 4
This morning, MS Johann Strauss sails through wide and varied river landscapes until it finally arrives in Düsseldorf in the afternoon. From here, a coach excursion leads to the important, lively Rhine city of *Cologne, which is explored on a sightseeing tour. The tour will take you, of course, to the famous Gothic Cologne Cathedral, which is listed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List and is considered the third highest church in the world. It is also the most visited monument in Germany. In the meantime, the ship has moored in Cologne, so that you can get back on board comfortably.

Day 5
Right at the mouth of the Moselle River into the Rhine River Koblenz is located, *city walking tour to the most important sights at the Old Town. After the ship has left Koblenz, the passengers enjoy the river cruise on the most romantic part of the Middle Rhine and past the Lorelei rock, steeped in legend. On the very same day MS Johann Strauss arrives in the charming wine-growing town of Rüdesheim, which is part of the Rhine Gorge – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The *shore leave in Rüdesheim includes a trip on the mini train „Winzerexpress“ into the centre of the small town, a visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet and a walk down the famous Drosselgasse, lined with wine taverns. Continuation of the cruise in the late evening.

Day 6
Arrival in Mannheim in the early morning. Coach excursion to one of the most beautiful cities in Germany – *Heidelberg. The old town is idyllically located on the Neckar and is the epitome of the “German Romanticism”. After the city tour return aboard in Mannheim. The next port of call is the emperors’ city of Speyer, one of the oldest German cities. Here, a *walking tour takes you through the Old Town to the impressive Cathedral of Speyer, St. Marien, the largest preserved Romanesque church in the world and also an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981.

Day 7
Arrival in the morning in Strasbourg. Full day excursion through the *Alsace region: First you enjoy a city tour in Strasbourg, the charming Alsatian capital. Then by coach through the Alsace wine region to Colmar. The city enchants with its half-timbered houses, the „Litte Venice“ district and its churches. The excursion includes lunch at a restaurant and the reembarkation at the German harbour of Breisach.
